Yes, I Am Not A Chef: An Introduction
Yes, I am not a chef, but I like cooking food.
I am also not a writer, but i'd like to get into the habit of blogging.
Thus, this blog was born. Specifically, a blog about food. A blog about my meal prepping journey, to be exact.
Just like everyone else, I decided to mark the new year as a time for me to get back on the road to fitness, which I had slowly abandoned sometime in 2016, causing me to gain 15 lbs in the process. During this time I ate way too much, felt weak and lousy, and my clothes no longer fit well. So naturally I consoled myself by eating even more. Yum.
Several terrible holiday pictures later however, I told myself that I finally needed to change. I promptly marked January 1, 2018 on my calendar as the last day of my old unhealthy life, and made sure to imagine upbeat 80's motivational music playing in my head as I did it. 2018 would be the year I lose weight old school style. You know, by counting calories and working out. BO-RING... but effective.
Since my spending habits on food and food wastage have also been out of control, it made sense to look into meal prepping as part of calorie counting. I could make tasty meals, but portion them out so I don't eat more than I need to at a time. My vegetables would also stop rotting in my fridge because I'd be able to cook them all at once and just eat them later in the week. I'd do all my cooking on Sundays which would finally give me more time to do other things on weekdays. MEAL PREPPING WAS PERFECT IN MY HEAD.
In real life however, Meal Prep Week 1 turned out... pretty okay.
Since I also prepared food for my husband in real life, I underestimated the amount I had to make and he ended up finishing his meals way faster than planned. I also chose to prepare something I had never cooked before in my life so it didn't turn out fantastic (I had over seasoned it a tad), but it was still yummy enough to eat for a few days straight. Lastly, I only prepared one viand, so that unfortunately got old pretty fast.
All in all, I think I did a fair job for my first time meal prepping. Lessons learned for application on Week 2:

All in all, I think I did a fair job for my first time meal prepping. Lessons learned for application on Week 2:
- Cook more food. Especially for the husband.
- Cook familiar items. It's practically a new recipe if you start cooking them in bulk.
- Cook more viands. Variation is really important to keep you wanting to eat the food that you've prepared.
That's it, I guess. Next entry I'll be showcasing what I cooked for Week 1, together with some very imprecise recipes that you other non-chefs such as myself might be able to follow. Please don't expect much. I hardly use measurements with cooking and go with my gut more often than not. #themagicofcooking #dohashtagsevenworkonblogger #screwthisidontknowhowhashtagswork
